About the Role
A Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex-based company is looking for a visionary Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead its technology division. This executive-level, hands-on position involves setting the technological vision, directing strategy, nurturing a high-performing engineering team, and revitalizing the technology stack. The CTO will start by performing an exhaustive evaluation of current technology systems, architecture, staff, and processes, then spearhead the upgrade and modernization efforts while preserving smooth business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a thorough review of the technology organization’s structure, skills, workflows, vendor relations, and technical liabilities.
- Audit current technology platforms and prepare prioritized recommendations for technology modernization.
- Lead the redevelopment of technology infrastructure, including re-platforming and replacing legacy systems with minimal disruption.
- Make strategic decisions on maintaining, replacing, or rebuilding components, supported by data-driven business justifications.
- Develop and implement a multi-year technology roadmap aligned with growth targets.
- Assess emerging technologies such as AI/ML, cloud, and data platforms to identify competitive edge opportunities.
- Manage build-versus-buy choices, vendor partnerships, and technology budgeting.
- Recruit, mentor, and retain engineering talent across software development, infrastructure, data, and quality assurance.
- Instill engineering best practices including agile methodology, continuous integration/delivery, quality assurance, and documentation standards.
- Scale and structure the engineering team effectively as the organization grows.
- Collaborate with Product and Design teams to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Oversee system architecture with focus on performance, reliability, and maintenance.
- Lead platform modernization efforts such as cloud migration and infrastructure improvements.
- Direct cybersecurity policies, data privacy, and disaster recovery plans.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards.
- Establish service level agreements, uptime goals, and incident response protocols.
- Serve as the technical spokesperson to executives, board members, partners, clients, and investors, explaining complex technology concepts clearly.
Required Qualifications
- At least 12 years of advancing experience in technology leadership, including a minimum of five years in senior roles like CTO or VP of Engineering.
- Proven success in evaluating and transforming underperforming or legacy technology teams and systems.
- Strong background in modernizing technology infrastructures while ensuring continuous business operation.
- Experience growing and managing engineering teams of over 20 professionals.
- In-depth knowledge of modern cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, SaaS, and API-driven architectures.
- Experience managing technology budgets exceeding $5 million, including P&L responsibilities.
- Expertise in security, compliance, and risk management.
- Collaborative leadership skills working closely with CEOs, CFOs, and executive peers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience driving company growth through scaling, funding rounds, or successful exits (M&A or IPO).
- Practical experience deploying AI/ML technologies in production environments.
- Advanced degrees such as MS or MBA.
- Established connections within the Dallas-Fort Worth technology community.
