Job Overview
The Carpenter role involves performing both rough and finished carpentry tasks, along with installing and repairing architectural hardware. Additionally, this position requires mechanical repairs and upkeep of hospital mechanical and plumbing equipment across the facility.
Organizational Context
- Reports to the Engineering Supervisor
- Collaborates closely with engineering staff, environmental services, and various departmental customers
- Serves patients, visitors, and staff as primary customers
Key Duties
- Adhere to standard procedures to ensure timely completion of projects
- Carry out rough and finished carpentry work including surface preparation for painting or other finishes, application of wall vinyl, and modification of existing structures as needed for installations
- Maintain and replace hardware components such as lock assemblies
- Apply effective troubleshooting and diagnostic methods to repair and maintain building systems and equipment
- Maintain inventory of building supplies necessary for routine tasks
- Enter data accurately into departmental preventive maintenance and work order software
- Collaborate as part of a team to achieve departmental objectives
- Comply with all medical center, departmental, and safety policies, and actively identify potential safety hazards in the work environment
- Demonstrate professionalism aligned with the mission, philosophy, and values of the organization
- Be proactive in monitoring personal performance and seek opportunities for improvement
- Participate in relevant training sessions and meetings to enhance job performance and competency
- Engage in planning and implementation of departmental or organizational process improvements

- Assist with additional duties such as light painting, staining, winter snow removal, and responding to emergency codes as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Four to five years of prior experience in carpentry and mechanical systems maintenance
- General knowledge of construction trades, materials, methods, and applications
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
- Proficiency in operating various woodworking power tools as well as hand tools
- Comfort working on ladders and scaffolding
- Must pass annual fit testing to wear protective masks
- Valid drivers license is mandatory
- Completion of mandatory reporting training regarding child and dependent adult abuse within six months of hire, with renewal every five years
- Potential requirement to work nights or weekends as certain areas are inaccessible during regular hours

- Hand tools including hole saws, woodworking tools, planers, lock installation tools, wall repair tools
- Power tools such as table saws and band saws
- Diagnostic equipment
- Elevators, pneumatic tube systems, patient care equipment, plumbing systems
- Ladders and lifting apparatus
Work Schedule
Standard hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, working every ninth weekend.
