Role Overview
We are seeking an Associate Cloud Developer on a 12-month contract to join our Digital Technology group at our Burnaby head office. This role involves supporting and advancing BCAA's cloud-native platforms on AWS by collaborating with senior staff to monitor production systems, troubleshoot issues, resolve defects, and implement backend improvements that enhance system reliability, performance, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver second-level support for AWS-based cloud-native production applications.
- Monitor system health, alerts (CloudWatch), queues, and pipelines to maintain platform stability.
- Investigate and resolve production problems involving AWS services, APIs, and enterprise integrations.
- Conduct root cause analyses and assist with long-term reliability improvements.
- Manage recovery and reprocessing of failed transactions within digital platforms.
- Develop, test, and deploy backend fixes, feature enhancements, and integration updates.
- Collaborate closely with senior developers, architects, and product teams for feature design and implementation.
- Enhance monitoring, logging, and alerting infrastructures for live systems.
- Support comprehensive validation of digital workflows and customer communication chains.
- Engage in quality assurance, user acceptance testing, release preparation, and deployment tasks.
- Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and foster team knowledge sharing.
- Participate in backlog refinement and initiatives aimed at continual platform and operational improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.
- 1 to 3 years of software development experience, including exposure to production support or cloud operations.
- Proficient in developing and supporting AWS cloud-native solutions utilizing services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SNS, SQS, EventBridge, CloudWatch, and RDS (PostgreSQL).
- Backend development experience with Node.js or Python; Python skills are an advantage.
- Experience building RESTful APIs and handling system integrations.
- Knowledge of event-driven architectures, asynchronous messaging systems, distributed systems, and monitoring of dead letter queues (DLQ).
- Familiarity troubleshooting production environments across cloud platforms, applications, and integrations.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Exposure to Agile development methodologies.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical writing abilities.
- A committed interest in continuous learning related to cloud technologies and building dependable, scalable backend systems.
Additional Desired Skills
- Certification such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or higher.
- Experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and deployment automation.
- Knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools like CloudWatch.
- Experience supporting enterprise integrations across both cloud and on-premises environments.
Salary and Contract Details
The position offers an annual salary range of $75,363 to $94,204, corresponding to hourly rates of $41.41 to $51.76. Compensation is based on relevant skills, experience, certifications, market demand, and internal parity. Additionally, this role includes eligibility for a performance bonus targeting 9%, with potential to reach 15%. This is a 12-month contractual position with the possibility of extension or conversion to permanent status, subject to performance and operational requirements.
Work Location and Schedule
This is a hybrid role located at BCAA's Burnaby office, requiring three onsite days and two remote days per week. Candidates must be within commuting distance or willing to relocate to the Greater Vancouver, Lower Mainland, or Fraser Valley areas to be considered.
