Assistant Researcher

Position Overview

The University of Kansas Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in Lawrence, KS is seeking a full-time Assistant Researcher to join the Zhao Lab under the direct supervision of Dr. Ming Zhao. This hourly position occasionally requires evening and weekend work. The role is ideal for individuals passionate about fundamental and translational biomedical research. The Zhao Lab is located within the Simons Biosciences Research Laboratories, near key research facilities including the Biopharmaceutical Innovation & Optimization Center and the Animal Facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform in vitro and in vivo experimental procedures such as immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, ELISA, flow cytometry, ELISpot assays, and qPCR to evaluate biopharmaceutical formulations' efficacy.
• Support manuscript preparation, grant application compilation, and documentation required for laboratory compliance.
• Implement laboratory quality control and assurance protocols while maintaining accurate records.
• Attend lab meetings and maintain regular engagement with the principal investigator.
• Manage laboratory supplies procurement and inventory.
• Oversee the lab’s social media presence and outreach initiatives.
• Collaborate effectively with other lab members to achieve shared research goals and foster a cooperative environment.
• Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent; alternatively, a high school diploma with four years of related experience.
• At least two years of laboratory experience involving molecular biology techniques for proteins, RNA, and DNA (e.g., PCR).
• Expertise in polymer and nanoparticle synthesis.
• Experience handling mammalian or microbial cell cultures and animal care.
• Strong organizational and communication skills demonstrated through application materials and professional history.
• Proficiency in quantitative data analysis and presentation using tools such as GraphPad and OriginPro.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing projects within a research setting.
• Ability to develop new standard operating procedures supported by comprehensive literature reviews.

Additional Information
