About the Role

USIC is seeking motivated individuals who enjoy outdoor work and independence to join as Utility Locators. This role offers a long-term career opportunity with a company known across the U.S. for its dedication to safety and quality in underground utility damage prevention and infrastructure services. Each year, USIC performs over 84 million utility locates for a vast array of utility and municipal clients, including telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer sectors.

Our ideal candidates are problem solvers who prioritize public safety and thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments. No prior locating experience is necessary as comprehensive training is provided, though experienced locators are welcomed to apply. This position requires fieldwork utilizing company vehicles equipped with advanced technology and ticketing systems to ensure precise and efficient mark-outs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and accurately locate underground utilities such as telecom lines, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems.
  • Perform thorough searches within assigned areas, document findings rigorously, mark utility locations clearly, and capture photographic evidence for each locate.

It is a daytime, full-time role with a 48-hour turnaround mandate on many jobs. Shifts may include work after holidays, weekends, overtime, and on-call assignments including nights and weekends based on operational requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Capability and willingness to conduct work outdoors across varying weather conditions; prior outdoor work experience is advantageous.
  • Technologically proficient to use company-provided smartphones and locating equipment effectively.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call periods.
  • Pass mandatory drug screening due to safety-sensitive nature of the position.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to maneuver in confined spaces and to walk, bend, and lift items up to 75 pounds.
  • Visual ability to distinguish between color-coded wiring and utility markings.
  • Competency in reading, interpreting, and referencing locate tickets, maps, and construction prints.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with teammates, clients, contractors, and homeowners clearly and professionally.

Compensation

The position offers a competitive hourly wage of $20.00.
