Role Overview

This role offers an exciting entry point for motivated trainees or early-career mechanical designers looking to develop practical skills in an industrial setting. Located in Kurri Kurri, NSW, the Trainee Mechanical Designer will receive hands-on training working closely with seasoned engineers on the design, drafting, and modeling of mechanical mining equipment, progressing designs from concept to production-ready details.

Key Responsibilities

• Support mechanical engineers by producing models, detailed component drawings, and general arrangement diagrams.
• Create detailed drawings based on models, sketches, and existing specifications.
• Utilize Autodesk Inventor to build components and assembly models that adhere to technical requirements.
• Verify that drawings are accurate, consistent, and comply with project and company standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, design teams, workshop staff, suppliers, and clients to devise practical design solutions.
• Adhere to NEPEAN's safety standards, procedures, policies, and workplace health and safety obligations.

Candidate Profile

• Eager to learn with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to developing in mechanical design.
• Previous familiarity with mechanical drafting, design, or engineering fundamentals is advantageous.
• Experience with or strong interest in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and Vault software tools.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Capable of collaborating well in a team and following guidance from senior engineers.
