Role overview
Pacific National, Australia’s biggest private rail freight operator, is looking for a Trainee Locomotive Driver in Port Augusta, South Australia. This is a hands-on traineeship where you earn while you learn and work toward a nationally recognised qualification in train driving.
The company moves large volumes of essential freight across the country, including coal, intermodal containers, steel and other bulk cargo that support Australian industry and supply chains.
What you will do
You will follow a structured programme designed to develop you into a qualified locomotive driver through a mix of practical and theory-based training.
- Complete a three-step traineeship that combines classroom learning with practical experience
- Learn how to prepare, control and operate locomotives and trains safely in an active rail setting
- Take part in competency assessments and training both on the job and off the job
- Work in line with operational procedures to help keep rail movements safe and efficient
What you will need
- A strong commitment to safety
- Good teamwork and clear communication skills
- Basic computer literacy
- Willingness to work rotating 24/7 shifts, including nights, weekends, and periods away from home
- A current Class C driver’s licence
- School Certificate or an equivalent qualification
- Openness to learning and a genuine commitment to personal growth
