The team is a small, early-stage group focused on building the capital markets infrastructure in Rwanda.
Role Overview
The Trading & Settlements Officer will manage the core operations of brokerage activities, including executing client trade orders and ensuring timely, accurate settlements. This critical, detail-oriented role is central to the company's transaction processes and interactions with brokers and regulators. As an early operational hire, you will contribute significantly to shaping trading and settlement procedures as the company scales.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute buy and sell orders for equities and bonds listed on the RSE accurately and within stipulated deadlines, adhering to client instructions and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor order statuses and confirm execution details with counterparty brokers and the RSE trading system.
- Perform daily reconciliation of trade and settlement records, promptly investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
- Reconcile client financial accounts including deposits and withdrawals related to trading activities.
- Act as the primary operational liaison for Button Brokerage with partner brokers and market counterparties, coordinating order routing and resolving execution or settlement issues.
- Prepare and submit statutory reports to relevant authorities and stakeholders as required.
- Implement daily Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT), and Customer Protection Framework (CPF) monitoring, transaction screening, and escalate suspicious activities in compliance with Button's policies.
- Maintain thorough trading, settlement, and transaction records in accordance with CMA regulatory recordkeeping standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or related discipline.
- Between 1 to 3 or more years’ experience in trading operations, treasury, bank operations, capital markets, or settlements.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage financial reconciliations efficiently under pressure.
- Strong, clear professional communication skills for effective interaction with brokers and regulatory bodies.
- Proficiency in Excel/spreadsheets and adaptability to learning new trading software platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in banks, broker-dealers, or capital markets institutions within Rwanda or the regional market.
- Familiarity with Rwandan Stock Exchange operations and Capital Markets Authority (CMA) regulations.
- Possession of a CISI certification is advantageous; Button Ltd offers financial support for obtaining this certification within the first year of employment if willing.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary package.
- Opportunity for a founding-team position with meaningful ownership of building and optimizing trading processes.
- Work based at Norrsken House Kigali, located within Rwanda's vibrant startup ecosystem.
