Position Overview
Chevron is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Team Lead for Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) at the Oronite plant on Jurong Island, Singapore. The role emphasizes leadership in safe, reliable, and efficient execution of E&I maintenance for facility systems. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring safety, quality maintenance, team development, and continuous operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strong safety leadership ensuring all maintenance activities adhere strictly to safety protocols such as Permit to Work, Lockout Tagout (LOTO), and company safety guidelines.
- Review and sanction high-risk work tasks, ensuring associated hazards are identified and managed effectively.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through visible leadership, interventions, and reinforcement of safe working practices.
- Lead investigations of incidents, disseminate lessons learned, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Maintain good housekeeping, prevent spills, and ensure proper waste management during maintenance operations.
- Direct planned maintenance operations with Operations teams, minimizing unplanned or emergency work.
- Ensure maintenance jobs are properly planned, executed right the first time, adhering to established procedures by a skilled workforce.
- Track and aim to reduce rework, equipment breakdowns, and recurring failures.
- Maintain precise maintenance documentation and timely closure of work orders to aid reliability analysis.
- Assist troubleshooting efforts and enhance performance of critical machinery and repeat problem equipment.
- Oversee maintenance of various facility systems including HVAC (air conditioning and chillers), electrical power and lighting, fire alarms, CCTV, access control, elevators, building utilities, and solar installations.
- Coordinate internal teams and external vendors to maintain reliable facility operations.
- Monitor equipment status and implement measures to minimize breakdowns.
- Support adherence to regulatory and compliance mandates such as NEA and energy reporting.
- Lead, supervise, and train E&I technicians to strengthen technical proficiency and troubleshooting skills.
- Collaborate with Learning & Development teams to design and implement structured training and competency advancement plans.
- Coach team members on safety protocols, technical competencies, and disciplined work practices.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and address any performance deficiencies.
- Manage planning, prioritization, and allocation of resources for maintenance efforts effectively.
- Work alongside planners and material coordinators to improve maintenance job plans, preventive maintenance programs, and spare parts inventory management.
- Champion ongoing improvements in maintenance methods, tools, and systems.
- Engage in cross-functional problem-solving efforts, audits, and continuous improvement projects.
- Manage team scheduling including deployment, overtime, and contractor assistance to meet operational targets.
- Ensure sufficient manpower availability for all maintenance activities.
- Support plant shutdowns, startups, and commissioning processes as required.
- Act as Maintenance Superintendent delegate when necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- At least 5 years of maintenance experience within process plants, petrochemical, oil & gas, chemical or manufacturing sectors, including a minimum of 2 years in supervisory or leadership roles.
- Deep knowledge of electrical distribution, industrial instruments, analyzers, control systems, PLCs, Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), and facility-specific equipment.
- Proven expertise in planning, scheduling, and conducting preventive, predictive, corrective, and turnaround maintenance operations.
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP Plant Maintenance, Maximo, or equivalents.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technically skilled maintenance teams while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and productivity.
- Strong skills in work prioritization, resource management, and handling competing operational demands in dynamic environments.
- Sound understanding of maintenance and reliability engineering concepts, equipment criticality, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement techniques.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and coordination capabilities to effectively interact across Operations, Engineering, Reliability, Projects, and Contractors.
- Prior experience in petrochemical, specialty chemical, refining or similar process industries is highly advantageous.
Location and Additional Information
The appointed individual will be stationed at Chevron’s Oronite plant on Jurong Island, Singapore. This role requires onsite presence with no relocation allowances offered within Chevron’s policy. The selected candidate will be employed under the Singapore local payroll system and benefits package.
