Surveillance Operative

Role overview

This position sits within Allied Universal Compliance & Investigations and is based on the road across Cork and the surrounding counties in the Munster region. The role involves covert surveillance work aimed at gathering video evidence on subjects for the insurance investigation sector.

Pay and schedule

The starting salary is €35,000 per year, with increases linked to length of service. The job is for 40 hours per week plus overtime, and overtime is paid at enhanced rates. Working hours are Monday to Friday in 8-hour shifts at standard rates, with full flexibility needed to cover evenings and weekends, which also attract enhanced rates.

What the role involves

• Carry out discreet surveillance activities in line with the law and the company’s code of conduct.
• Record observations carefully and keep accurate notes and evidence files.
• Support investigations and carry out enquiries as instructed by the Area Manager.
• Attend court and give evidence when required.

Candidate profile

The employer is looking for someone who is patient, highly observant, and able to stay focused for long periods. Strong communication skills, solid driving ability, and the capacity to remain calm and adaptable in changing situations are important. The job also requires accurate admin, flexible availability at short notice, and the physical ability to complete foot surveillance when needed.

Mandatory requirements

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, hold a full manual Irish driving licence, and have unrestricted permission to work in Ireland. A valid PSA Private Investigator Employee Licence, Category 08A, is considered an advantage. Successful candidates must also meet PSA and G4S vetting checks and be able to provide a full 5-year activity history.

Training and conditions

Full training is provided free of charge. However, if the employee leaves within the first 12 months, a contribution toward training costs will be deducted from salary. Employment is also subject to screening in line with PSA and G4S vetting standards.
