About the Role
This permanent full-time position involves working more than 65 hours every fortnight, with shifts covering mornings, afternoons, sleepovers, and weekends. As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in enabling individuals with intellectual disabilities to live fulfilling lives within their homes and wider communities. The job affords you the opportunity to be innovative and ensure that every day is meaningful and engaging for those you assist.
- Encourage independence by helping clients develop practical life skills such as meal preparation and using public transportation.
- Assist with everyday routines, including personal care like showering, dressing, and medication management.
- Support individuals in pursuing their interests and hobbies to help them follow their passions.
- Promote healthy living choices and overall well-being for the people you support.
- Help build stronger connections between clients and their families (whānau) and the community.
Candidate Requirements
Although previous experience in health or disability care is not required, candidates should bring a strong motivation to build a career in support work with a positive mindset. Comprehensive training and orientation will be provided for those eager and ready to learn.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and sleepovers.
- Competence with computers and tablets on a daily basis.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Physical capability to provide necessary physical assistance.
- Possession of a full New Zealand driver's license.
