Role Overview
The Station Controller at Auckland One Rail plays a crucial role in ensuring safe, secure, and efficient functioning of stations and stabling yards. Operating from the Auckland Rail Operation Centre (AROC) in Ellerslie, you will be responsible for overseeing station activities, managing incidents, supporting station staff, and maintaining customer service excellence. This position involves direct coordination of operational systems and resources around the clock, requiring flexibility to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate smoothly with both internal teams and external stakeholders to maintain uninterrupted station operations for staff and passengers.
- Supervise contractors handling facility maintenance, security, and environmental compliance to ensure adherence to safety standards.
- Respond promptly to maintenance concerns and communicate progress to relevant parties.
- Lead incident management procedures during emergencies or unexpected events within the facilities.
- Manage critical operational systems including access control, HVAC, surveillance, and electrical power.
- Implement and uphold safety management and emergency response protocols to minimize operational risks.
- Monitor CCTV footage and process related requests for law enforcement or other authorized authorities.
- Collaborate with emergency services such as Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) and KiwiRail during facility incidents.
- Serve as Fire Warden and undertake Chief Fire Warden responsibilities as required.
- Assist in system testing and provide constructive feedback on infrastructure projects such as City Rail Link (CRL) developments.
Candidate Requirements
- At least 2 to 3 years of professional experience in security systems, facilities management, or transport operations, with a preference for candidates with rail industry experience.
- Strong dedication to customer service supported by effective communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities calmly within a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
- A proactive mindset towards maintaining safety, security, and continuous operational improvement.
- Flexibility to work scheduled shifts that include nights, weekends, and public holidays.
