Staff Front-End Engineer - Design Systems

Role Responsibilities

• Lead development and ownership of a cross-platform UI platform by shipping portable React components for web and React Native mobile environments, supporting multiple major company products with deadlines set before the end of 2026.
• Simplify and abstract platform-specific complexities to empower product teams with seamless cross-platform functionality without extra overhead.
• Establish and maintain high standards for building, distributing, and consuming portable components to accommodate over 800 engineers at scale.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to engineers navigating the transition from a web-first approach to a cross-platform engineering model through design reviews, code reviews, and technical leadership.
• Collaborate with multiple product teams to gather requirements, prioritize development work, and promote adoption of the design system platform.
• Define strategic technical direction for the Design System Evolution team and support broader design system initiatives.
• Develop the design system to integrate AI-assisted workflows that enhance speed of delivery, enable non-technical users to build user interfaces, and support a strong, consistent visual language.
• Champion frontend engineering excellence by defining best practices and influencing the wider frontend specialty across the organization.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will possess some combination of the following skillsets and experiences:

• Proven leadership and development experience with design systems, demonstrating a passion for platform stewardship and enablement.
• Strong foundational knowledge of web technologies including HTML, CSS, Web APIs, JavaScript/TypeScript, and React.
• Hands-on experience with cross-platform UI development, particularly using React Native.
• A successful history of delivering large-scale, cross-team projects with reliable and scalable technical solutions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills enabling effective teamwork across departments.
• Balanced approach with capability for high-level strategic thinking alongside detailed technical precision.
• Effective structured problem-solving skills to decompose complex problems into actionable decisions with clear trade-offs.
• A commitment to fostering an environment of technical excellence, learning, and knowledge sharing.
• Interest in AI technologies improving developer workflows and design processes.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards and willingness to continue learning in this area.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Experience acting as a technical advocate driving impactful technical changes both individually and in leadership roles.
• Skills in stakeholder communication and internal advocacy.
• The ability to write accessible code conforming to detailed specifications such as WCAG 2.2 AA.
• Exposure to native or hybrid mobile development environments.
