About the Role
Exhall Cedars Infant Nursery & Pre-school is seeking a dependable School Caretaker / Site Supervisor to join their team in Coventry. This permanent, full-time, non-teaching position involves maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for children, staff, and visitors throughout the year. The role requires physical stamina, experience in general DIY, building maintenance, and record keeping, as well as some supervisory and limited budget management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure security of premises and grounds including routine opening and closing, prevent trespassing, and manage vehicle parking.
- Act as nominated keyholder, respond to alarm calls and emergencies outside normal working hours.
- Oversee cleaning standards during holidays by carrying out general cleaning tasks and audits, and manage cleaning materials and equipment inventory.
- Address maintenance tasks promptly based on reported issues, perform routine upkeep including heating plant operation, frost precautions, and emergency response measures.
- Supervise contractors ensuring health and safety compliance and satisfactory completion of work.
- Maintain school grounds including flower beds, paths, and playing areas, ensuring cleanliness and safety.
- Manage stock deliveries, storage, and inventory control effectively.
- Prepare and support school lettings and after-hours activities according to established protocols.
- Safeguard well-being and health & safety of cleaning staff, serve as a qualified First Aider at Work, and assist in risk assessments and health and safety checks.
- Handle paperwork including maintenance logs, order forms, and COSHH records, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Participate in continuous professional development related to role requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Good literacy and numeracy skills to perform administrative tasks and stock control efficiently.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and effective interactions with staff and external parties.
- Ability to follow procedures, manage cleaning equipment and tools, and conduct daily maintenance activities.
- Familiarity with school site layout and organization.
- Capability to supervise and coordinate cleaning staff.
- Problem-solving skills with initiative to handle unforeseen situations such as hazards or accidents.
- Availability and flexibility to respond to emergencies or weather-related incidents beyond normal working hours.
- Undergo enhanced DBS check, medical checks and provide satisfactory references.
Additional Information
- This role is subject to a six-month probationary period.
