About the Company

The Port of Melbourne stands as Australia's foremost maritime hub, facilitating containerised, automotive, and general cargo trade. As a pivotal economic entity for Victoria and the wider Australian market, it manages extensive port lands, wharves, and channels that support the nation's critical trade gateways. The organisation is committed to sustainable and responsible infrastructure management to accommodate the port's continued growth and operational excellence.

Role Overview

The Infrastructure division seeks a Project Manager within the Delivery team to oversee a diverse portfolio of civil, marine, and multidisciplinary port infrastructure projects from initiation through to completion. This leadership role encompasses comprehensive responsibilities including project planning, execution, stakeholder coordination, contract oversight, budgeting, risk management, and detailed reporting to guarantee projects are delivered safely, timely, and within financial constraints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and plans, ensuring all project phases — from evaluation, estimation, corporate approvals, legal negotiations, contract management to field supervision and cost oversight — are executed proficiently.
  • Lead and direct project engineers, contractors, consultants, and temporary staff by providing motivation and oversight.
  • Champion safety standards by establishing and enforcing safety practices internally and across partner organisations to ensure zero harm.
  • Facilitate the resolution of complex project-related challenges, including contractual, legal, industrial, and property matters.
  • Engage in direct negotiations with contractors, consultants, and internal departments to address and resolve various project issues.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess a tertiary degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrate robust experience in engineering project management, particularly in directing resources for successful project execution.
  • Proven capacity to concurrently manage and lead multiple complex, multidisciplinary projects independently while adhering to established timeframes and budgets.
  • Extensive experience supervising construction projects with adherence to occupational health & safety (OH&S) and environmental standards.
  • Command familiarity with quality assurance concepts, methodologies, and standards.
  • Understanding and practical application of contract law within engineering project contexts.
  • Strong grasp of stakeholder engagement principles and strategies.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and various project management, scheduling, financial, administrative, and graphic software tools.

Additional Information

Applicants must hold valid full working rights in Australia and be residing within the country at the time of application. While meeting all stated criteria is preferred, candidates who demonstrate potential but may not fulfill every qualification are encouraged to apply.

Application deadline: 14 August 2026.
