This client operates as a dynamic, remote-first team of creative professionals who push innovation and prioritize user-focused designs through a collaborative and agile process. They are currently expanding their pool of skilled product designers to take on future client engagements, seeking mid-to-senior-level freelance professionals with strong UX and visual design expertise.

Role Overview

As a Product Design Contractor, you will engage with various client projects, working closely with the Chief Creative Officer and cross-functional teams. Your responsibilities include designing user-centered digital products for web and mobile, leading user research, and providing visual design leadership. This position demands collaboration with engineering and product teams to ensure seamless handoff and quality throughout production.

Key Responsibilities

• Create wireframes, prototypes, and polished designs that enhance functionality and user engagement across digital platforms.
• Conduct both qualitative and quantitative user research to guide feature prioritization and product strategy.
• Utilize UX methodologies such as journey mapping, user flows, and usability testing to ensure intuitive user experiences.
• Provide visual direction on select projects, producing versatile layouts and design assets for products and marketing needs.
• Develop compelling presentation materials to effectively communicate ideas to clients and stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams by supplying annotated designs, supporting QA, and facilitating smooth development handoffs.
• Support additional design efforts including creation of case studies, marketing collateral, social media content, and internal documentation.

Qualifications

• 4 to 6 years of product and visual design experience focused on digital platforms such as web and mobile.
• Strong knowledge of UX principles, including user research techniques, usability testing, and applying insights into design solutions.
• Proven capability to independently manage features from initial wireframes through high-fidelity implementation.
• Experience leading or contributing to discovery and product definition phases alongside strategy and engineering teams.
• Proficiency with Figma and Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with Mac OS environments.
• Comfortable with remote collaboration tools like Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, Jira, and Harvest.
• Excellent communicator with a collaborative mindset and the ability to explain design decisions clearly.
• Highly organized and self-directed, capable of managing workload in a fast-paced remote setting.
• Bonus: background in client-facing or agency environments where flexibility and teamwork are essential.

Additional Information

This is a contract role, part of a strategic initiative to create a network of experienced product designers for upcoming client projects. The hiring process is ongoing, with candidates added to a contractor roster based on suitability. Start dates depend on project availability linked to business pipelines. While fully remote, there is a preference to prioritize candidates located in New York City for occasional in-person collaboration.
