Role overview
Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for the Rochester Delivery Office in Rochester, England. This is a permanent position where you will represent a trusted national service by delivering letters and parcels across the local area.
The job is active, customer-facing, and community-based. It involves working outdoors, moving between walking and driving tasks, and handling a route that may change depending on demand.
Location and contract details
Work location: Rochester Delivery Office, ME1 1AA.
Employment type: Permanent contract.
Working pattern: 35 hours per week, spread across 5 days out of 7, Monday to Sunday, with shifts typically between 07:00 and 15:00.
You should expect a rotating rota, including weekends. Sundays are required at Rochester Delivery Office between 10:00 and 18:00 on 1 in 4 Sundays.
Pay and timing
Pay is £13.68 per hour, paid monthly, with overtime available at an additional rate.
Key duties
- Organise letters and parcels at the delivery office before heading out on route.
- Deliver mail both by van and on foot within your assigned local area.
- Interact with customers and help maintain positive community relationships.
- Carry out delivery work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
What the role involves day to day
This position is physically demanding and moves quickly. Expect long walking routes of up to 12 miles or more than 20,000 steps, daily van driving, delivery of letters and a high volume of parcels, and time-sensitive work during busy periods.

Requirements

- Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van every day, plus the ability to pass a driving assessment.
- Good physical fitness for long walks, stairs, hills, and lifting or carrying mailbags of 10 kg or more.
- A dependable, self-driven approach to work.
- Strong organisation and the ability to stay resilient in a busy setting.

- Comfort working independently and outdoors in all weather.
