Job description
The Role:
We are looking for a Platform Hardware Engineer to help develop next-generation accelerator platforms based on Openchip silicon for AI, Machine Learning (ML) and High-Performance Computing (HPC) applications.
In this multidisciplinary role, you will contribute to the development of complex hardware platforms from concept through production, working across board design, manufacturing, bring-up, validation and system integration. You will collaborate closely with silicon, firmware, software, power, mechanical, thermal and manufacturing teams, as well as external suppliers and technology partners, to deliver reliable, high-performance products.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining hands-on hardware development with cross-functional collaboration to solve challenging technical problems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development of accelerator boards and platform hardware throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept to production.
- Contribute to hardware architecture, schematic reviews, design integration and technical trade-off analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure successful hardware implementation and system integration.
- Review schematics, PCB layouts, manufacturing documentation and engineering changes.
- Support component selection, qualification, lifecycle management and supply chain readiness.
- Drive hardware bring-up, debugging, root-cause analysis and board validation activities.
- Develop and execute functional, electrical and system-level validation plans.
- Investigate and resolve hardware, firmware, manufacturing and system integration issues.
- Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Test (DFT) and broader Design for Excellence (DFX) activities.
- Work with manufacturing partners, suppliers and technology vendors throughout product development.
- Support EMC, safety and regulatory compliance activities.
- Contribute to technical planning, project execution, risk assessment and engineering
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in board-level hardware development, hardware validation, system integration or a related engineering role.
- Ability to read and understand schematics, PCB layouts, manufacturing documentation and component datasheets.
- Good understanding of digital hardware design, PCB development and hardware bring-up methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads and digital multimeters.
- Familiarity with embedded systems and firmware-hardware interactions.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing server, networking, accelerator or data center hardware platforms.
- Knowledge of high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, Ethernet, SPI, I²C/SMBus and UART.
- Experience with Siemens Xpedition or similar PCB design tools.
- Understanding of Signal Integrity (SI), Power Integrity (PI) and high-speed PCB design principles.
- Experience with silicon bring-up, board validation or system integration.
- Knowledge of EMC/EMI design practices and regulatory compliance.
- Experience working with PCB manufacturers, assembly partners and component suppliers.
- Basic scripting or automation skills using Python, Shell or similar languages.
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management and engineering change processes.
- Experience in AI, HPC or accelerator hardware environments.
