Role Overview
The Partial Discharge (PD) Engineer is tasked with conducting condition monitoring and partial discharge assessments on electrical transmission and distribution substations. This role emphasizes delivering safe, precise, and prompt diagnostic testing aligned with approved procedures and industry standards while upholding rigorous safety and equipment preservation standards.
Main Duties
- Conduct partial discharge testing and monitor conditions at electrical transmission and distribution substations.
- Perform inspections and tests per approved method statements and project specifications.
- Operate under the supervision and direction of the Team Leader.
- Utilize suitable PD detection and diagnostic techniques to identify equipment faults and evaluate asset conditions.
- Analyze test outcomes and promptly report irregularities, defects, or anomalies to the Team Leader.
- Adhere strictly to safety procedures, regulations, and permit-to-work systems relevant to high-voltage setups.
- Safeguard equipment by avoiding damage during testing and maintenance tasks.
- Keep detailed records, test reports, and all associated documentation up to date.
- Use and service test instruments and equipment in line with manufacturer guidelines.
- Engage in ongoing technical and safety training and sustain necessary certifications.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts regarding condition monitoring and reliability enhancement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possess a full-time degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or institution.
- Have a minimum of five years experience in condition monitoring of electrical transmission and distribution substations.
- Demonstrate proven expertise in partial discharge testing and diagnostics of electrical assets.
- Possess thorough understanding of high-voltage electrical systems and substation equipment.
Skills and Knowledge
- Expertise in multiple partial discharge detection and diagnostic techniques.
- Strong familiarity with electrical condition monitoring best practices.
- Sound knowledge of safety protocols and risk management in high-voltage environments.
- Capacity to interpret testing data and compile technical reports effectively.
- Awareness of industry standards and best practices for assessing electrical asset conditions.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
- Capability to collaborate effectively within diverse teams.
Certifications
- Holds relevant certifications and specialized training in Partial Discharge testing and condition monitoring.
- Additional qualifications in electrical safety or related fields are advantageous.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities
- Consistency in meeting all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain vigilance regarding hazards linked to high-voltage systems.
- Immediate reporting of unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment issues to the Team Leader.
