Overview

Vertiv is hiring an experienced NPDI Sourcing Engineer to join its Global Procurement Team. This critical role involves leading all sourcing and procurement activities for assigned product lines throughout the New Product Development and Introduction lifecycle. The engineer will act as the primary liaison between Engineering, Commodity Management, Suppliers, and Manufacturing teams to ensure successful product launches characterized by timely delivery, cost efficiency, and supply chain readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage sourcing and procurement operations from concept, prototype stage, pilot builds, up to mass production phases.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Commodity Management, Operations, and Suppliers to support product introduction success.
  • Source components from preferred vendors ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, lead-time adherence, and continuous supply.
  • Drive supplier preparedness and material availability aligned with development milestones and production timelines.
  • Formulate prototype sourcing strategies and coordinate expedient procurement alongside Engineering and Purchasing.
  • Review quotations, tooling needs, manufacturing proposals, and provide cost-quality-risk informed recommendations.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives including e-Auctions and value engineering, alongside robust supplier negotiation.
  • Maintain and report on purchase BOM costs, closely tracking changes against targets.
  • Work with regional/global teams to mitigate supply chain risks and manage production transfer activities.
  • Lead sourcing reviews for critical projects ensuring timely completion of mitigation actions.
  • Participate in NPD/NPI stage-gate review meetings driving procurement-related deliverables.
  • Monitor procurement KPIs and initiate corrective measures if targets are unmet.
  • Support supplier risk and resilience assessments to bolster supply continuity and business readiness.
  • Coordinate launch and ramp-up activities with EMS and manufacturing partners to achieve project schedules.
  • Fulfill additional assigned duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial), Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or related disciplines.
  • 5 to 7 years’ experience in Supply Chain, Procurement, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related areas.
  • Prior involvement with New Product Introduction (NPI/NPDI) in manufacturing or technology sectors is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain, sourcing, and procurement in manufacturing environments.
  • Proficient in interpreting technical specs, engineering drawings, and BOMs.
  • Capability to manage multiple concurrent projects within cross-functional, matrixed organizations.
  • Knowledge of product industrialization, supplier development, and production launch processes.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to cultivate supplier partnerships and influence global cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with ERP and PLM software and proficient Microsoft Office skills.
  • Willingness to engage with teams across different time zones globally.
  • Continuous improvement mindset focused on driving process optimization and change.

Preferred Certifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)

Additional Details

Travel Requirement: Approximately 15% travel.
Location: This role is onsite at Vertiv facilities in Burnfoot or Letterkenny, ROI, or Campsie, Northern Ireland.
