Role Overview

The Newspaper Journalist will be responsible for reporting, writing, and producing news articles on local government, schools, events, and community concerns for both print and digital media. Daily tasks include researching topics, conducting interviews, attending meetings and events, verifying facts, and composing clear, accurate, and compelling stories under tight deadlines. Collaboration with editors and photographers to develop story ideas and adapt material for online and social media platforms is essential. This position requires a full-time presence onsite to maintain strong engagement within the newsroom and the broader local communities.

Qualifications

• Excellent news writing capabilities for creating concise, engaging print and digital content.
• Proficient research skills involving source validation, data collection, and fact-checking to ensure credibility.
• Experience or familiarity with multimedia storytelling including audio, video, or social media reporting is a plus.
• A bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional background.
• Strong interviewing, analytical, critical thinking skills, coupled with attention to detail.
• Able to work effectively under deadlines, juggle multiple stories simultaneously, and collaborate well within a newsroom team.
• Awareness of local community issues and a passion for community journalism; possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for local reporting duties are necessary.
