SSC Services for Education is looking to bring someone on board right away for a full-time Mailroom Clerk/Porter role at Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. This position supports campus mail handling and custodial operations in an educational facility environment.

Work schedule and location

The job is based at Marywood University, 2300 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509. It is a day-shift, full-time position. Online applications are the only accepted method.

The pay rate is $16.00 to $16.50 per hour.

Key duties

The role combines mailroom work with porter and custodial support. On an average day, roughly four hours are spent on mail clerk responsibilities, while the remaining time may involve cleaning, campus operations, and backup porter tasks as needed.

• Sort, process, deliver, and pick up mail, courier items, interoffice mail, magazines, and USPS correspondence.
• Record incoming and outgoing shipments, prepare outgoing items, and track accountable shipments such as FedEx, UPS, and certified mail.
• Use carrier software to package, label, and process non-hazardous and hazardous materials.
• Investigate unidentified or generic mail and route it appropriately.
• Stage and move bulk mail, receive messenger items, and maintain logs and tracking records.
• Follow client SOPs, handle customer questions and requests, and keep accurate records of inquiries and completions.
• Support custodial and campus operations during slower mailroom periods.
• Serve as a backup porter, including collecting exterior trash and driving a company vehicle when needed.
• Maintain cleanliness across campus and adapt to changing operational needs.

Qualifications and preferred background

Applicants need prior experience in both mailroom and custodial work. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with relevant customer service experience. Experience and certifications related to dangerous goods shipping are preferred, including a current Dangerous Goods shipping certificate (49 CFR and IATA), knowledge of domestic and international shipping rules for dangerous and non-dangerous goods, and familiarity with shipping systems used by carriers such as UPS, DHL, and FedEx.
