This is a full-time, non-exempt, fully on-site role with a pay rate of $22.00 per hour. The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Eastern Time.
The Machine Inspector plays a safety-sensitive part in the operation by carrying out detailed checks on heavy construction equipment to confirm safety, performance, compliance, and readiness for use. The role also includes identifying mechanical faults, recording equipment condition, and adding customer-requested decals, track units, and other noted defects.
What you will do
- Inspect construction equipment such as excavators, loaders, bulldozers, graders, forklifts, cranes, and skid steers.
- Assess key systems and parts, including engines, hydraulics, transmissions, electrical systems, undercarriages, and structural components.
- Check that machines operate in line with manufacturer requirements and safety expectations.
- Carry out pre-delivery checks and recurring scheduled inspections.
- Make sure inspection work follows OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and other applicable industry safety rules.
- Spot unsafe or non-compliant conditions and suggest corrective steps.
- Contribute to safety efforts by reporting risks and guiding operators on safe work practices.
- Prepare thorough inspection reports with observations, photos, measurements, and recommendations.
- Record wear, leaks, electrical faults, and other mechanical issues in the company’s internal inspection system.
- Run functional tests on engine performance, hydraulic response, braking, and electronic systems.
- Operate equipment safely to confirm performance and identify problems.
- Perform periodic exercises on equipment that has been in storage for extended periods to verify proper operation.
What the employer is looking for
- Solid mechanical understanding of construction machinery.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, mechanical inspection, or a similar field.
- Comfort using inspection tools such as calipers and torque wrenches.
- Strong focus on detail, especially where equipment safety and operating condition are concerned.
- Ability to operate different types of heavy equipment.
- Capability to manage pressure and balance multiple priorities.
- Highly organized approach with strong problem-solving skills.
- Clear communication and writing ability, including the confidence to ask questions, raise concerns, and coordinate with different teams.
- Commitment to working within safety procedures, company policies, and operating guidelines without taking shortcuts.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Physical ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds using proper techniques.
- Comfort working in confined spaces, tight loading areas, outdoors in all seasons, and in non-climate-controlled warehouses.
- Ability to climb up, under, around, and over large equipment and work safely at heights of up to 30 feet.
- Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
Safety and compliance

All duties are performed in accordance with the company’s quality, environmental, and health policies.
Work environment and culture
Aertssen describes its culture as still evolving, centered around “People, Power, and Passion to Build On.” The environment is fast-paced, operationally focused, and very hands-on, with leadership closely involved in day-to-day work.
