About the Role
We seek legal research professionals with deep expertise in Westlaw to critically assess AI-generated legal research. This involves validating legal authorities and contributing to the development of AI reasoning in complex legal matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Critically assess AI-created legal research to ensure it meets professional standards.
- Confirm that referenced cases, statutes, and regulations are accurate, up to date, and still good law.
- Spot incorrect citations, misrepresented rulings, outdated legal authority, and omitted controlling precedents.
- Differentiate between binding and persuasive authority and provide comprehensive written justifications for evaluations.
- Support AI improvement by delivering structured feedback and engaging in calibration processes.
Candidate Profile
- Possess at least 2 years of professional legal experience, ideally in litigation or research-focused positions, or as a law librarian/legal researcher involved in substantive legal research.
- Regular professional use of Westlaw in current or recent roles.
- Competent in validating case law, statutes, regulations, and citations utilizing KeyCite and other Westlaw tools.
- Hold a Juris Doctor degree with bar admission or an MLIS (or similar qualification) alongside practical law librarian or legal research credentials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a judicial law clerk or research attorney.
- Familiarity with legal research platforms such as Lex Machina, PACER, Practical Law, or comparable advanced tools.
- Expertise in conducting multi-jurisdiction or nationwide legal research.
- Background in areas including commercial litigation, appellate law, employment, regulatory, or government practice.
Compensation
Hourly rate ranging from $75 to $150 based on experience and expertise.
