Role Overview
The Straits Times is seeking a journalist to join its education team, responsible for crafting news stories, detailed features, and various content pieces centered on Singapore's education sector. This role involves exploring key challenges and developments affecting Singapore’s education landscape, including social mobility, student well-being, educational reforms, and the future of learning. The journalist will identify emerging trends, uncover exclusive stories, and offer analysis on gaps and possible solutions in the system.
Responsibilities
- Create compelling and informative articles for print and digital platforms focusing on education-related topics.
- Produce multimedia content such as videos, podcasts, interactive graphics, and other visual storytelling formats.
- Conduct independent research and collaborate with team members to develop stories aligning with audience interests.
- Maintain an acute news sense to capture trends and stories that resonate with an online and mobile readership.
- Be willing to work on weekends and public holidays as per roster requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
- University degree from a recognised institution.
- Minimum of two to three years of journalistic experience, preferably with an interest or background in education.
- Experience covering education or social affairs is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Strong command of the English language and excellent writing abilities.
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively.
- Resourcefulness, enthusiasm, self-motivation, and capability to perform under pressure.
- Good understanding of online content consumption patterns and audience engagement.
