Role overview
The Installation Lead for wind turbine projects is accountable for directing all field-based installation activity at project sites. Reporting to the Construction Manager, this person ensures subcontractors, labour, materials, and site resources are coordinated effectively so the work progresses safely, efficiently, on budget, and to the required quality level. The position calls for strong construction knowledge and the ability to lead complex, large-scale work in remote or demanding environments.
Key responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day site operations for wind turbine construction, including component assembly, tower erection, turbine installation, and completion of electrical and mechanical works, while keeping to schedule, budget, and quality targets.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and site labour to keep work moving in line with the project scope, while resolving resource conflicts and delivery delays.
- Apply and enforce site safety, health, and environmental requirements through inspections, risk reviews, and corrective actions when hazards are identified.
- Track the construction schedule closely, adjust plans for weather, logistics issues, or unexpected site challenges, and keep stakeholders informed of any timeline changes.
- Carry out quality checks to confirm work meets engineering requirements, manufacturer instructions, and industry standards, and address non-conformances promptly.
- Act as the main site contact for construction managers, technical specialists, quality personnel, and subcontractors, providing status updates and escalating risks or blockers as needed.
- Resolve on-site problems quickly, including equipment failures, supply chain issues, and operational obstacles, by working with the wider team to keep the project on track.
- Maintain accurate daily records covering work progress, safety checks, incidents, delays, and scope changes, and submit detailed reports to management.
- Support, coach, and mentor site personnel to build capability, encourage high performance, and strengthen a collaborative team culture.
Work environment
This role is based at remote or rural project locations in South Australia, with travel to different sites possible and the likelihood of extended time away from home. The work can involve harsh weather, long hours, physically demanding tasks, climbing wind turbines, manual work, and duties at height. Flexibility is essential, including availability for weekends and holidays when project deadlines require it.
Qualifications and experience
- A recognised trade qualification relevant to the role is required.
- At least 10 years of practical experience in mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation work within construction is needed.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory or equivalent leadership role is required.
- A bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related discipline is preferred, although equivalent substantial experience may be accepted instead of formal study.
- Hands-on experience with construction management software, project tracking tools, resource planning systems, and scheduling platforms is expected.
- Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations, compliance requirements, and safe work practices is essential.
- Proven ability to plan, schedule, and supervise multiple tasks and subcontractors in a fast-moving construction setting is required.
Additional information
Because this is a global organisation working across multiple time zones, some monitoring, reading, and responding to messages outside normal working hours may be expected. Relocation assistance is not provided. This is a remote role.
Eligibility
Professionals with the required trade background, extensive field experience, and prior supervisory exposure in construction are suitable for this opportunity. Candidates who can work in remote environments and adapt to changing site conditions, extended hours, and non-standard schedules should apply.
