Incident Management Officer - Explosives

About the Role and Organization

Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) is seeking a motivated and suitably qualified Incident Management Officer specialising in explosives to join the Central Assessment and Performance Unit's Incident Response Team (CAPU) based in Townsville. This team works collaboratively with regulatory inspectorates to enhance safety and health outcomes for resource workers by improving incident data handling and regulatory responses.

Key Responsibilities

• Reviewing and triaging incident notifications promptly.
• Managing the entire incident management lifecycle.
• Delivering timely, informed advice to both industry stakeholders and RSHQ Inspectorates to support data-driven, risk-based decisions.
• Enhancing the intelligence of incident reporting data specific to explosives activities across Queensland, supporting regulatory operations.

Role Requirements

The role serves as the initial contact point during business hours for incidents across all RSHQ regulated entities. It demands applying deep knowledge of explosives legislation spanning multiple jurisdictions, including managing incident reporting, investigation protocols, and securing or releasing incident scenes. Candidates must have comprehensive understanding of safety, health, and security management systems and experience within the explosives sector covering the entire lifecycle of explosives in mining and related industries.

Additional Duties and Liaison

This position requires frequent coordination with various levels of RSHQ’s regulatory divisions for incident triage and management, and engagement with other agency divisions ensuring system quality assurance.

Qualifications and Experience

• Ability to obtain necessary Explosives Security Clearance.
• Minimum of five years' experience in the explosives industry, preferably within a mining environment.
• Highly developed communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
• Willingness to travel intermittently for multiple consecutive days as required.
