Role Purpose
The IELTS Examiner is responsible for delivering impartial and expert evaluation of candidates’ performance in the Speaking section of the IELTS test to ensure consistent and fair assessments at all times. This role supports operations based in Sydney and requires availability for one to two shifts weekly, including weekdays and/or weekends.
Key Responsibilities
- Successfully complete training programs conducted by the Test Centre’s Examiner Trainer.
- Regularly participate in testing sessions, with a minimum frequency of once per month.
- Undergo scheduled re-training and re-certification as stipulated.
- Adhere to confidentiality and security protocols throughout all IELTS-related activities.
- Comply fully with the Examiner Code of Practice, IELTS Confidentiality Undertaking, and engage with the Peer Support Network.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Possess an undergraduate or master’s degree.
- Hold a recognized TESOL qualification, at least Certificate IV level.
- Have a minimum of three years’ ESL teaching experience with adult learners.
- Demonstrate personal qualities suitable for the examiner role.
- Meet the Minimum Professional Requirements outlined in the official MPRs document.
- Commitment to regularly attend scheduled testing sessions.
- Strong understanding and adherence to confidentiality and security standards for test materials.
- Strict compliance with IELTS policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism.
- Comprehension of assessment criteria and test administration protocols.
- Capacity to remain calm under pressure or unexpected situations.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Availability to work on Saturdays.
Preferred Qualifications and Conditions
- Experience teaching ESL internationally is advantageous.
- Willingness to work on weekdays in addition to weekends.
