Job description
Summary
The HR Specialist position supports comprehensive Human Resources functions within various agricultural and manufacturing units including Produce, Fertilizer, Farms, Valley Farms, and Global Agriculture. Reporting to the Human Resources Business Partner, this role acts as the primary HR contact for employees and managers, facilitating HR programs, policies, and employee lifecycle processes while ensuring consistency and positive engagement across operational sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the initial contact point for HR-related inquiries from employees and managers.
- Advise leaders on attendance, performance issues, workplace conduct, and HR policy adherence.
- Conduct fact-finding for workplace investigations and prepare documentation and summaries.
- Support attendance reviews, disciplinary actions, coaching sessions, and handle corrective measures consistently.
- Coordinate leave administration, including disability claims, accommodations, and return-to-work procedures.
- Assist with recruitment logistics, from job description preparation to onboarding and orientation programs.
- Maintain HR information systems ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.
- Generate, analyze, and report HR metrics such as turnover, absenteeism, and workforce demographics to leadership.
- Promote employee engagement through recognition programs and wellness initiatives aligned with company values.
- Support Health & Safety initiatives by coordinating training records and compliance documentation.
- Ensure legal and policy compliance, assist with policy communication, and support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
- Contribute to HR projects and continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications
- Preferred post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related fields; equivalent experience considered.
- Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources.
- Experience with recruitment, employee relations, attendance and leave management, and HR systems preferred.
- Background supporting multiple operational locations within manufacturing, agriculture, food processing, or industrial sectors is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to handle confidential information judiciously.
- Competent in organizational skills, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and policy interpretation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and HR information systems.
- Ability to work independently yet collaborate effectively with diverse teams across locations.
Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based with regular visits to multiple operational sites.
- Physical ability to work in office, agricultural, warehouse, production, and field environments including walking production and farm sites.
- Capable of long periods of sitting, operating computer and office equipment.
- Occasional lifting of items up to 20 lbs.
- Flexibility to support peak business and seasonal hiring demands.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is CAD 58,800 to CAD 78,500 annually, plus eligibility for bonuses.
