About the Role

This entry-level GIS Technician position focuses on maintaining accurate and current geographic information system data to assist City departments in infrastructure planning, reviews, and communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and update digital maps and spatial data layers leveraging ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online platforms.
- Create map outputs and graphical materials for various projects; provide drafting support utilizing AutoCAD Map 3D.
- Maintain database content with data organization, execute quality assurance checks, and manage version control procedures.
- Analyze and interpret blueprints, plans, and engineering drawings, documenting findings clearly and accurately.
- Employ scripting languages such as Python and Arcade for workflow automation and attribute logic enhancements when necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of a high school diploma plus two years of technical training in computer science, or an associate degree specialized in computer science (GIS focus) complemented by at least one year of relevant experience.
- Familiarity with Windows operating systems and proficiency using Microsoft Excel and Office applications.
- Experience working with GIS software including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, along with scripting knowledge of Python and Arcade.
- Solid understanding of GIS principles, operational procedures, and design methodologies.
Daily Activities
Work is based onsite in American Fork, beginning each day by assessing new requests and prioritizing GIS data updates. Activities predominantly involve crafting and refining map layers within ArcGIS, verifying data attributes and spatial geometry to ensure accuracy. The role requires consistently switching among multiple information sources like plans, drawings, and field notes to maintain standardized, precise records. When necessary, the technician will prepare polished map graphics and utilize AutoCAD Map 3D to complete drafting tasks. Additionally, maintaining database clarity and updating published GIS content on ArcGIS Online for internal distribution are key daily duties.
