General Porter

Job Summary

The portering team plays a vital role in supporting all facets of hospital operations. This role requires adaptability to fluctuating demands caused by external factors such as patient volume, weather, and other environmental conditions. Porters work collaboratively and independently to ensure patient transport, emergency assistance, delivery of samples, medicines, meals, linens, and other materials occur efficiently and on time.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate both as part of a team and independently to support various hospital services within Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCU).
• Collect waste throughout the site safely and effectively.
• Transport patients to wards, departments, and other required locations.
• Manage the delivery and collection of meal trolleys, linen, goods, and mail timely.
• Communicate clearly and follow instructions from supervisors and management.
• Adapt to shift work including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

Candidate Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of a good standard of secondary education is essential.
• Possessing NVQ Level Two in Customer Service is an advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate compassionately and sensitively with patients and families, particularly in challenging situations.
• Proven tact and diplomacy when interacting with colleagues and others.
• Previous experience in a portering or related role is desirable but not required.
• Welsh language skills are preferred but fluent English alone is acceptable; applications in Welsh are welcomed and treated equally.
