Job description
About MSL Engineering Ltd.
MSL Engineering Ltd is a mechanical engineering contractor committed to delivering services that uphold the highest standards of workmanship, safety, quality, and reliability. Our core values revolve around honesty, respect, and integrity, fostering long-lasting partnerships that benefit clients, employees, and the wider community. We aspire to be globally recognised as a benchmark in mechanical project delivery, engineering design, and offsite modular fabrication by consistently providing superior and innovative solutions that enable our clients' success worldwide.
Role Overview and Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary communication link between the Construction Manager (CM) and supervision teams, actively participating in daily whiteboard meetings to discuss issues and maintain workflow ahead of area supervisors.
- Possess strong operational knowledge of the Navisworks model to troubleshoot installation area problems and alert supervision of potential conflicts.
- Ensure permits for work areas and locations are checked or requested daily, coordinating with the CM and supervision to confirm all necessary permits are obtained.
- Manage scaffolding modifications by coordinating directly with scaffolding contractor representatives and acting as the main contact point for craft supervisors regarding scaffold changes; large scaffold erections to be handled with CM involvement.
- Conduct daily check-ins with supervision crews to identify absenteeism, reporting promptly to the CM and discussing crew reallocation to maintain project progress.
- Coordinate with other contractors and the Project Safety Construction Supervisor (PSCS) to manage unplanned works and avoid delays or disruptions.
- Document constraints as they arise and immediately inform the CM for logging and resolution.
- Prioritise and coordinate material and piping deliveries with riggers and craft supervision to ensure workflow efficiency and avoid simultaneous requests.
- Support the Project Manager (PM) and CM in achieving weekly installation meterage targets by identifying causes for underperformance such as labor issues, ineffective supervision, or PSCS stoppages.
- Monitor timekeeping, attendance, and break compliance, addressing repeat offenders directly to enforce site rules, and report labor issues to the CM. Disciplinary actions require prior consultation with the CM or PM and Safety involvement if serious.
- Maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety by intervening to stop unsafe acts, promoting safety culture, and reporting hazards to CM or Safety personnel; empowered to issue warnings for unsafe behavior.
- Collaborate weekly with the CM to plan installation targets, identify potential obstacles, and prepare labor forecasts.
- Uphold confidentiality of discussions with PM and CM unless dissemination is necessary.
- Function as a potential pathway to Construction Manager by demonstrating capability through this role.
- Directly manage a small craft team to facilitate quick installations or resolve challenging snags, responding effectively to unplanned PSCS interruptions.
- Maintain vigilance during installations to identify missing components like bolts or guides and notify supervision to reduce rework.
- Ensure the site is left clean and orderly at the end of each day, typically being the last to exit the building to prevent issues at morning meetings.
- Capably oversee any crew in the absence of a supervisor to sustain productivity without interruption.
Benefits
- Competitive remuneration aligned with your experience and qualifications.
- Opportunity to work in a dynamic environment that values work-life balance and encourages continuous professional growth via training and development.
- Equal opportunity employer committed to fair and inclusive recruitment practices embracing diversity.
- Preference given to candidates with valid work permits; applications lacking appropriate visas will not be considered.
