Role overview
This position covers estimating and quantity surveying for structural steel projects. The role involves preparing quotes and tenders, maintaining strong working relationships with internal teams, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, and handling pricing, tracking, and claiming of project variations. It also includes measuring materials accurately and assessing labour requirements for commercial and residential steel work.
Key responsibilities
- Evaluate tenders to understand project scope, scale, and commercial allowances.
- Check tender pricing using material take-offs, bills of quantities, and current rates.
- Work with clients to clarify project needs and commercial details.
- Review risks, opportunities, and tender conditions before submission.
- Organise tender files, project paperwork, and agreements.
- Cross-check tender documents with construction drawings and any revised information.
- Price changes from tender stage through construction and manage project variation claims.
- Help identify and reduce commercial and organisational risk.
- Support a safe workplace and a positive health and safety culture.
- Carry out other reasonable duties as required.
Skills and experience
- Ability to accurately interpret structural and architectural drawings and detailing.
- Prior estimating and quantity surveying experience in the structural steel sector.
- Good knowledge of steel project materials, labour requirements, and time allowances.
- Strong computer skills, including confident use of MS Office and especially Excel.
