Role overview

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. is hiring an Employee in Charge (EIC) in Yakima, WA to support safe railroad work on active rights-of-way. This role is central to making sure field activities are carried out with strong safety control for freight railroads, transit systems, state departments of transportation, and other rail partners.

What you will do

Set up and manage on-track protection measures such as derails, track signs, and related safety equipment.
Coordinate work at the job site and help keep train movements and work activities properly organized.
Prepare daily field reports and document any rule violations or safety issues.
Maintain radio communication with dispatchers and train crews to share worksite safety status.
Lead required job briefings with crew members before they enter the track, making sure instructions are clear and complete.
Follow and enforce railroad, state, and federal safety rules and policies.

What you need

Comfort using tablets, smartphones, and other communication tools to coordinate train movement and field activity.
Strong speaking and writing ability.
Good attention to detail and solid organizational habits.
Willingness to travel for long stretches, sometimes for several months at a time.
Valid driver’s license.
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience with a railroad company, preferably in maintenance of way.
Ability to complete required federal, client, and/or company-specific training.

Work environment

This is a field-based position working alongside active railroad tracks. Travel is expected for about 50% to 85% of the time.

Compensation and benefits

Pay ranges from $23 to $37 per hour, with the rate depending on experience.
