Role Summary
This position involves expert repair and upkeep of a variety of analog and digital electronic and electrical infrastructures. Key systems include antenna servo and chopping secondary mirror systems, deicing mechanisms, power distribution networks, and related components requiring technical service within a major federal institution.
Core Duties
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex antenna servo and chopping secondary mirror systems along with deice and power distribution systems, plus other relevant analog and digital electrical systems.
- Construct intricate mechanical and electronic assemblies including chassis, wiring harnesses with MS, D, JDC, and coaxial connectors, power units, junction boxes, terminal boards, and multi-layer PCBs according to blueprints and design documents.
- Conduct precise testing and integration of electronic circuits and systems using approved procedures, performing diagnostics and documenting results.
- Engage in hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance of a diverse range of electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical subsystems such as transporter electronic controls, generators, batteries, 480 VAC wiring, as well as antenna motors and braking systems.
- Complete additional related tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications and Conditions
- U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
- Possession of a valid state driver’s license is required.
- Must successfully complete a high-altitude physical examination prior to employment.
- Pre-employment background check may be required.
- Candidate may need to fulfill a one-year probationary period.
- Must have an active bank account to accommodate direct deposit arrangements.
- Specialized Experience: Minimum of one year at a comparable GS-10 federal level or equivalent pay grade performing technical duties such as providing sophisticated technical support for advanced digital systems, skillful operation of high-speed digital oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers, and proficient fault isolation and repair of multi-layer electronics including FPGAs, ASICs, and DSP integrated circuits.
- Time-in-Grade: Candidates must meet any applicable federal time-in-grade stipulations if applying through competitive merit promotion tracks.
