Role Overview
As a Draftsperson, you will collaborate closely with Associate and Senior Lighting Designers throughout the design process to develop fully detailed lighting concepts. You will be tasked with producing precise drawings, renderings, and all supplementary documentation essential for comprehensive lighting packages. Your responsibilities include the technical design of rigging, temporary structures, power distribution, and control systems. Fieldwork to finalize installations, take measurements, and document completed projects is also part of the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed lighting plots, floor plans, sections, elevations, construction details, and truck packing lists.
- Develop artistic renderings and 3D visualizations to communicate design intentions effectively.
- Prepare Lightwright documentation and other necessary paperwork to support lighting designs.
- Contribute to graphic design and layout of pitch decks and creative presentations.
- Assist senior team members onsite with measurements, fixture placement, and related tasks.
- Help organize and maintain the company’s digital resources and databases.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the team.
Qualifications and Skills
- Between 1 to 3 years of professional experience in theatrical, event, or broadcast lighting drafting, or a similarly relevant background; relevant education may substitute for some experience.
- Strong proficiency in 3D Vectorworks and Vectorworks Spotlight software.
- Experience with Lightwright software.
- Basic to intermediate skills in Photoshop or artistic 3D rendering to effectively convey design ideas.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Rhino, Cinema 4D, SketchUp, or other CAD tools is advantageous.
- Basic understanding of power and data distribution systems.
- Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team environment.
- Resilience and adaptability with a positive attitude in a fast-paced workplace.
- Minimum education requirement: High School Diploma; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Compensation and Terms
This is a paid hourly role, with overtime pay applicable after 40 hours per week. The hourly wage ranges from $30 to $45 based on experience. The position is contracted for a limited term from August 17th to October 9th, with a possibility of extension.
