About The Professional Women's Hockey League

Position Overview
The PWHL is seeking a Director of Content to spearhead the league's storytelling initiatives, editorial direction, and content ecosystem management. Reporting to the Senior Director, Brand Marketing, this role entails transforming league priorities, business goals, and audience insights into a cohesive, integrated content strategy aimed at growing the fan base, reinforcing brand loyalty, and elevating the PWHL's presence across all platforms.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain an overarching league content strategy that aligns storytelling with brand, marketing, and business growth objectives.
- Establish the editorial vision, content framework, and narrative guidelines that steer storytelling on all owned media channels.
- Lead a comprehensive storytelling approach across social media, editorial content, video, digital platforms, SEO, and new channels.
- Create season-wide storytelling plans highlighting players, rivalries, major events, league initiatives, and fan culture.
- Manage and mentor the league's social media team through the Senior Manager, Social Media role.
- Coordinate cross-functional storytelling efforts involving Growth Marketing, Video Production, Broadcast, Communications, Partnerships, Community Impact, and Team Business Operations.
- Set key performance indicators and success metrics for content performance; analyze data to inform strategic improvements.
- Stay informed on industry developments, platform changes, and shifts in audience preferences to continually optimize the league's content strategy.
Required Qualifications
- At least seven years of experience in content strategy, editorial leadership, brand storytelling, or digital media.
- Experience crafting integrated content strategies for national or global sports properties, entertainment brands, media organizations, or consumer brands.
- Proven capacity to translate business aims into compelling, audience-focused content plans.
- Strong background in managing and developing high-performance teams.
- Expertise in SEO and content optimization across multiple storytelling channels.
- In-depth knowledge of digital media, social platforms, audience behavior, and evolving content trends.
- Ability to assess content metrics and convert findings into strategic recommendations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and to travel as needed.
- Legal authorization to work full-time in the United States or Canada; position may be based in either country.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of women's sports and enthusiasm for enhancing visibility and storytelling within the sector.
- Familiarity with the PWHL, its athletes, teams, and fan base.
- Experience collaborating with athletes, talent, or influencers.
- Background in launching or expanding content initiatives for emerging brands, leagues, or media platforms.
Work Conditions and Travel
This fully remote position requires schedule flexibility to accommodate events and seasonal demands, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Travel will be necessary as the role requires.
