Role overview

WM New Zealand is seeking a qualified Diesel Mechanic to join its East Tamaki workshop team on an afternoon shift. This permanent full-time role offers the chance to work with experienced mechanics in a modern facility, supported by the wider Auckland-based operation.

Key duties

  • Keep vehicle records up to date by completing job sheets accurately for inspections, servicing, and repairs.
  • Carry out servicing and maintenance for vehicles and equipment in line with company procedures and vendor programmes.
  • Perform vehicle and body/unit maintenance as part of the Preventative Maintenance Programme.
  • Follow safe work practices consistently and help maintain a strong safety culture.
  • Track and manage work orders through the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Raise requests for required repair parts and consumables.
  • Check all workshop tools and equipment each day to make sure they are serviceable and properly accounted for.

Qualifications and experience

The ideal candidate will have a Level 4 Heavy Diesel Trade NZQA Certificate, or an overseas qualification that NZQA recognises as equivalent to Level 4. You should have more than 1 year of hands-on experience with preventive maintenance, fault finding, and repairs on fleet trucks. Experience with hydraulic system diagnostics and maintenance, and/or automotive electrical and electronic fault diagnosis, is preferred. Prior use of CMMS platforms is an advantage, though not mandatory. A Class 4 Driver’s Licence would be a strong plus.

Work schedule and location

This role is based in East Tamaki, Manukau, Auckland. The shift runs from 2:00 pm to 11:30 pm, with a 45-hour workweek from Monday to Friday and occasional Saturday work.

Compensation and benefits

The position pays an hourly rate of $40 to $43 and includes an on-call allowance. Additional benefits include access to modern facilities such as a large in-house workshop and automatic washbay, discounted onsite café access, free onsite parking, ongoing training, professional development, and a supportive workplace culture. WM New Zealand also notes that it invests in career growth and may be able to support suitable candidates with longer-term opportunities in New Zealand.
