Job description
Position Overview
The Designer is responsible for creating safe and economical formwork, shoring, and scaffolding solutions tailored to client needs and project specifics. This role involves preparing detailed design drawings and material estimates, mainly for standard projects, with opportunities to contribute to custom designs under Engineering leadership oversight. Engagement with customers, collaboration with sales teams, and technical support are integral aspects of this position to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Design formwork, shoring, and scaffolding systems for diverse construction projects.
- Produce general arrangement, assembly, and steel fabrication drawings using 2D and 3D formats.
- Collaborate with PERI Technical Sales Consultants to create solutions that are both practical and cost-efficient.
- Engage directly with customers to clarify design requirements and expectations.
- Work alongside professional engineers to confirm adherence to CSA, OHSA, and relevant building codes.
- Conduct and document design calculations employing PERI’s structural analysis tools.
- Develop accurate material lists and verify those prepared by other team members.
- Maintain engineering documentation in alignment with the Quality Management System and the Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP).
- Guide and assist Engineering Interns, Draftspeople, and junior Designers.
- Visit job sites as needed and offer technical support.
- Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology diploma, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
- 0 to over 3 years’ experience in structural engineering or construction sectors.
- Experience with structural analysis software is advantageous.
- Familiarity with formwork or scaffolding design concepts is preferred.
- Understanding of structural and architectural blueprints and construction sequences.
- Knowledge of Canadian and Provincial Building Codes and Standards is beneficial.
- PERI product knowledge and bilingual abilities in English and French are considered assets.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and vehicle access may be required.
