Daycare Kitchen Assistant

Job Overview

As a vital part of the Kids & Company team, reporting to the Centre Director, you will support the smooth daily functioning of kitchen operations. Your role centers on preparing and cooking meals following the organization's high standards that align with its mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the preparation and serving of meals and snacks, including portioning and timely delivery to classrooms, ensuring safety standards are met.
• Handle various food preparation tasks such as preparing fruits, baking, and other kitchen assistance as assigned.
• Prepare and arrange meal service materials including bins, serving items, and delivery carts for efficient distribution.
• Gather dishes, utensils, and serving equipment back from classrooms post meal service.
• Clean, rinse, sanitize, and correctly store all kitchenware and food service equipment, following strict food safety protocols.
• Keep the kitchen environment clean, orderly, and hygienic by cleaning workspaces, equipment, storage areas, and service items.
• Assist with organizing, storing, and rotating kitchen stocks and supplies to maintain proper inventory.
• Adhere rigorously to all food safety, sanitation, allergy awareness, and occupational health and safety guidelines.
• Collaborate closely with the Cook and Centre Director to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
• Undertake other related kitchen duties as required to support overall operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Availability to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
• Possess 1 to 2 years’ experience in a Kitchen Assistant role.
• Completion of High School diploma or equivalent GED.
• Current Food Handler Certification or willingness to obtain this credential.
• Previous experience in a daycare setting is considered an asset.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Successful criminal record check clearance.
• Physical capability to lift, push, and pull items up to 45 pounds.
