Database Administrator

About the Role

We are looking for a proficient Database Administrator (DBA) tasked with managing, maintaining, and optimizing both traditional databases and modern object storage data lakes. This position ensures data availability, security, integrity, and optimal performance across platforms such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and S3-compatible storage solutions like MinIO. The role supports analytics, application workloads, and large-scale data ingestion.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, upgrade, configure, and maintain database systems including MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Monitor, tune, and optimize database performance by refining queries, indexing, and managing storage.
• Implement and uphold database security protocols, access controls, and ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
• Perform regular backups, validate restoration processes, and plan disaster recovery strategies.
• Resolve database incidents and outages promptly.
• Administer replication, clustering, and high availability configurations.
• Collaborate with software development teams to design and optimize database schemas.
• Coordinate with application teams and third-party vendors to guarantee system reliability, security, and supportability.
• Document database architectures, procedures, and best practice guidelines.
• Facilitate data migrations, system integrations, and environment upgrades.
• Support audit activities as required.
• Manage and administer object storage platforms (e.g., MinIO) to facilitate data lake operations, backups, and application workloads.
• Configure MinIO clusters including standalone or distributed setups with erasure coding, load balancing, and multi-node scaling.
• Design bucket configurations, lifecycle management policies, and storage tiering.
• Maintain strict access management, credential rotation, and API security for S3-compatible platforms.
• Monitor object storage systems focusing on health, capacity, I/O performance, and cluster stability.
• Implement backup, replication, and disaster recovery plans for object storage environments.
• Integrate object storage with analytics, ETL pipelines, and application services via S3 APIs.
• Work closely with data engineering teams for supporting ingestion, metadata management, and handling large-object workflows.
• Ensure compliance with audit and regulatory requirements for data lake infrastructures.
• Operate primarily during office hours with scheduled rotating 24×7 on-call responsibilities.
• Provide support across multiple Singapore sites and remotely for international deployments as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
• Proven track record as a Database Administrator or similar role.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and database design principles.
• Hands-on experience with backup, recovery, and database performance tuning.
• Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems and basic networking concepts.
• Experience working with object storage or S3-compatible systems such as MinIO, AWS S3, or Ceph RGW.
• Understanding of distributed storage technologies, including replication, erasure coding, and cluster topologies.

Preferred Attributes

• Experience deploying or managing MinIO in production environments.
• Skills in automation and scripting using Shell, Python, or PowerShell.
• Knowledge of observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
• Exposure to data lake architectures, tiered storage, lifecycle policies, and metadata handling.
• Background in data warehousing or ETL process implementations.
• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft SQL Server or cloud/storage related credentials.
