Job Location and Work Arrangement

This opportunity is based in Boston, Massachusetts, with an expectation to work onsite four days a week (Monday through Thursday) and one day remotely (Friday). Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship from Wayfair.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is between $91,500 and $104,000.

Role Overview

As a Data Scientist I, you will engage in building and scaling analytics products and infrastructure that support leadership and various internal teams in understanding and managing business performance. You will work with advanced data techniques and collaborate across technology and commercial operations teams to solve complex supply chain and operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop scalable analytical products using SQL, Python, and Google Suite visualization tools such as Looker and Looker Studio to enable data-driven decision-making by leadership and other stakeholders.
• Create automated data pipelines and workflows in Google Cloud Composer for data extraction, transformation, modeling, and dashboard updating.
• Perform statistical analysis on large datasets to uncover trends and generate predictive models that inform business strategy.
• Enhance demand forecasting models to reflect newly implemented business strategies influencing demand patterns.
• Construct segment-level performance models to provide comprehensive views on key operational KPIs and overall company trajectory.
• Design and maintain robust data structures that facilitate scalable monitoring of inventory performance metrics like turns, availability, and positioning, while enabling cross-team data accessibility.
• Effectively communicate insights and findings with interdisciplinary colleagues from computer science, operations research, and business functions.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, or Economics backed by strong academic performance.
• Highly analytical mindset with the ability to introduce structure to complex, ambiguous data and modeling challenges.
• Solid proficiency and regular practical experience with Python programming and relational databases (SQL), demonstrating a track record of actionable insight generation.
• Experience handling large datasets to identify trends, drill into specific details, make recommendations, and drive outcomes.
• Meticulous attention to detail with strong project and task prioritization skills leading to effective results.
• A self-driven problem solver capable of developing independent ideas and thriving in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
• A keen interest in solving complex supply chain issues from problem definition to implementation.
• Authorization to work in the United States without requiring Wayfair sponsorship for visas such as STEM OPT EAD, H-1B, or others listed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with end-to-end design and ownership of data pipelines ensuring data accuracy, scalability, and reliability.
• Demonstrated curiosity and understanding of Artificial Intelligence applications in analytics and business contexts.

Team Assignments

You will be assigned to a team aligning with your skills and business needs. Possible placements include Technology teams working on customer-facing products, fintech, and loyalty, or Commercial & Operations teams focused on supply chain, forecasting, network planning, and operational analytics. Close collaboration with product, engineering, and business stakeholders is expected.
