Role Overview

The Customs Declarations Officer is charged with preparing, verifying, and submitting accurate customs documents for both imports and exports, ensuring compliance with local and international customs laws. Responsibilities include the classification of goods, determination of applicable duties and taxes, communication with customs officials and clearing agents, and resolving any queries related to compliance or documentation. This position also provides shipment status information to customers, maintains detailed records, and works closely with internal operations to guarantee timely shipment clearance and delivery. The role is based in Nairobi County, Kenya, and offers a hybrid work schedule combining onsite presence with remote work flexibility.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Expertise in customs brokerage and handling import/export documentation to ensure compliance with trade regulations.
• Strong communication and customer service abilities for effective interaction with clients, government authorities, and colleagues.
• Proven experience in customs documentation, tariff classifications, and knowledge of Kenyan and regional trade regulations.
• Meticulous attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and ability to work under tight deadlines within a dynamic logistics environment.
• Familiarity with common office software and experience with customs or logistics management systems are preferred.
• A diploma or degree in logistics, supply chain management, international trade, business, or a related discipline is desirable.
• Demonstrated honesty, dependability, and eagerness to stay current with evolving customs legislation and procedures.
