Job description
Position Overview
The Custodial Worker III is responsible for leading and coordinating a team of custodial staff while carrying out various cleaning and maintenance tasks across multiple facilities. This role requires managing supplies, equipment, and ensuring adherence to safety and operational protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive work assignments from the supervisor and lead a small team of custodial workers by directing, coaching, and overseeing their duties.
- Assist with ongoing training and daily performance monitoring of custodial staff, and help manage employee time-off requests when necessary.
- Order supplies, maintain equipment inventory, manage budget aspects related to custodial operations, and assign work orders using AiM management software.
- Maintain cleanliness across facilities including halls, offices, classrooms, gyms, restrooms, elevators, and exterior entrances by sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, buffing floors, cleaning glass surfaces, and emptying trash and recycling bins.
- Operate and maintain floor care equipment such as scrubbers, burnishers, and carpet encapsulation machines.
- Prepare cleaning solutions by mixing water and detergents according to specifications and use chemical cleaners and power equipment following safety procedures to avoid damage.
- Monitor building conditions and notify managers of major repairs or improvements needed in operating systems.
- Ensure battery-powered equipment is maintained, including monthly battery water level checks.
- Adhere strictly to all Building Services Standard Operating Procedures, Facilities Services Policies, and safety directives.
Schedule and Work Conditions
- Regular work hours are from 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM, Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours per week.
- Schedules, shifts, and building assignments may be adjusted due to operational demands or special events.
- Holiday and weekend work may be required occasionally.
- This position is designated as Essential Personnel according to university policy.
Qualifications
- Minimum educational requirement is completion of ninth grade.
- At least two years of relevant custodial experience is required.
- Possession of a valid Class E Driver’s License is mandatory.
- Criminal background check and physical examination clearance are required before employment.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- High school diploma preferred with two years’ commercial custodial experience.
- Familiarity with commercial cleaning methods and floor care techniques for hard surfaces and carpets.
- Competence with AiM management software, Kronos timekeeping, and Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PeopleSoft.
- Proven skills in managing large teams and operations with positive workforce motivation.
- Customer service skills aligned with organizational values, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting maintenance tasks.
