About the Role
A nationally recognised mid-tier law firm is growing its Queensland-based Construction, Projects & Infrastructure practice. The firm seeks a Senior Associate or Special Counsel with extensive expertise in back-end construction litigation to join their team. This role offers the chance to engage with high-profile, complex infrastructure dispute matters within a flexible and supportive workplace culture.
Team and Practice Overview
The successful candidate will become part of a well-established team led by esteemed partners known for technical skill, market reputation, and collaborative leadership. The construction disputes practice covers high-value and challenging projects in sectors including mining, energy infrastructure, renewables, utilities, transport, ports, airports, and social infrastructure. Engagements typically involve strategic, sophisticated dispute resolution work.
The team strongly encourages continual professional development and offers funding support for pursuing a Master of Construction Law from the University of Melbourne.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex back-end construction and engineering disputes autonomously.
- Provide expert advice on complicated contractual, statutory, and risk-related matters.
- Prepare thorough and well-crafted legal advice, pleadings, and submissions.
- Collaborate closely with major clients and stakeholders.
- Support business development initiatives and contribute to growth of the practice.
- Mentor junior lawyers and contribute to professional development within the firm.
Candidate Profile
- Senior Associate candidates generally have over 6 years post-admission experience (PAE) in construction litigation.
- Special Counsel applicants typically possess 9 or more years PAE with significant experience handling major disputes.
- Strong familiarity with construction contracts and applicable legislative frameworks is required.
- A commercial, pragmatic approach coupled with excellent drafting and communication skills.
- A collaborative attitude and genuine interest in fostering a high-performing team environment.
