Concept Artist

About the Role

Macy's is seeking a Seasonal Concept Artist to develop and present innovative design concepts for parade floats, balloons, and other event properties, primarily for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This role involves translating rough ideas into detailed, colorful presentations through a variety of traditional and digital media, including 2D illustrations and 3D models.

Responsibilities

• Create initial sketches and completed renderings as well as 3D scale models of floats and balloons.
• Establish and communicate a clear creative vision to leadership and sponsors.
• Conduct research and collaborate on project designs, especially for large-scale events.
• Prepare files in both 2D and 3D, including digital and sometimes physical models.
• Manage multiple projects while maintaining effective cooperation with various stakeholders.
• Organize and maintain all design-related documentation including drawings, scale models, progress images, and reference materials.
• Work off-site as necessary to produce drawings for event locations, marquees, and store architecture.
• Participate as a crew member during installations, setups, and breakdowns as needed.
• Contribute to fostering a respectful and welcoming environment that strengthens connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Required Skills and Experience

• Proficient in creating both traditional and digital art concepts for event props, including floats and balloons.
• Experienced with Adobe Creative Suite tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
• Strong illustration skills across both traditional and digital platforms.
• Ability to develop 3D scale models using software and digital sculpting tools such as ZBrush.
• Familiarity with CAD software for precise virtual modeling of event designs.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for collaboration with project partners and leadership.
• Exceptional organizational abilities to maintain design files and inventories.
• Capacity to multitask and handle multiple deadlines effectively.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Must be capable of frequent heavy lifting, moving, standing, and reaching.
• Able to stand continuously for at least two hours and lift weights of at least 30 pounds.
• Must be comfortable stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and performing tasks requiring close-range vision and color perception.
• Flexible scheduling may be required based on department and company needs.

This job requires the ability to work on site in Moonachie, NJ, and may involve off-site tasks related to event preparation. The position includes participation in installations and event setups.
