About the Role

GGRC is seeking a Communication Specialist to join their team in the San Francisco area, including offices in San Mateo and San Rafael, California. This role serves as a central resource to promote quality, accessibility, and inclusivity across all internal and external communication platforms. It supports the design and implementation of communication strategies, workflow management, and the development of systems that foster effective organizational communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement communication strategies aligned with GGRC's mission.
  • Maintain communication plans, editorial calendars, and ensure content consistency across multiple teams.
  • Track timelines, deliverables, and manage communication requests efficiently.
  • Lead quality assurance for all communication materials ensuring clarity, coherence, and adherence to accessibility standards, including ADA compliance and multilingual access.
  • Oversee communication channels like websites, newsletters, social media, keeping them updated and accurate.
  • Utilize analytics, community feedback, and identify the need for external support or resources.
  • Help build internal communication capacity by supporting staff, developing tools and templates, and facilitating training sessions.
  • Assist in storytelling efforts to highlight GGRC's impact through compelling narratives.
  • Manage external communications, including announcements, press releases, and media inquiries, targeting audiences such as individuals with developmental disabilities, families, and policymakers.
  • Support responses to urgent issues and prepare materials for leadership and board presentations.
  • Travel locally within San Francisco, San Mateo, Marin counties, with occasional travel to Sacramento and other areas in California, requiring reliable transportation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Literature, or related field required; Master’s preferred.
  • 5 to 8+ years of experience in communications, public affairs, or related fields.
  • Proven experience managing social media and coordinating cross-departmental communications.
  • Strong commitment and experience supporting disability inclusion, accessibility, and respectful representation.
  • Preferred experience includes work in disability services, healthcare, government, or regulatory environments.
  • Familiarity with legislative and policy processes, content management systems, and visual storytelling tools is desirable.
  • Multilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog) are an advantage.
