The Opportunity

Veolia operates New Zealand's pioneering Thermal Hydrolysis Process (THP) facility at Moa Point, using advanced technology to transform wastewater treatment. This role provides a unique opportunity to be among the first NZ operators specializing in THP technology, receiving training from global experts and contributing to the plant's operational excellence and local capability development.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor plant systems including dewatering, THP, anaerobic digestion, and thermal drying on 12-hour rotating shifts (day/night) to maintain continuous operations.
• Conduct daily process monitoring, sampling, testing, and optimize control parameters via SCADA systems.
• Perform regular inspections and maintain detailed logs of plant operations.
• Respond promptly to process alarms and implement corrective measures.
• Input and maintain accurate operational data within management systems.
• Execute planned preventative maintenance activities and document maintenance using CMMS.
• Identify potential equipment problems proactively and support reactive maintenance tasks alongside contractors and maintenance teams.
• Collaborate with Moa Point Wastewater Treatment Plant operators for smooth process integration and participate in joint planning sessions.
• Engage in specialised training, contribute to procedure development and refinement tailored to NZ conditions, and become a subject matter expert in THP operations.
• Assist in developing, reviewing, and enhancing Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring compliance with safety and operational protocols.
• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture adhering to contractual, environmental, and health and safety regulations, including Lock Out Tag Out procedures.
• Manage chemical inventory, participate in safety audits, and report environmental or safety incidents.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Proven expertise in wastewater treatment processes.
• Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated methodologies.
• Experience maintaining accurate records and working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Proficiency in SCADA systems and process control.
• Competency in emergency response and troubleshooting scenarios.

Desirable Qualifications

• Technical qualifications in wastewater treatment or related disciplines.
• Experience with anaerobic digestion and thermal drying procedures.
• Familiarity with ISO standards such as ISO45001, ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO55000, or ISO50001.
