Move Different Logistics is a trusted logistics firm in Kenya specializing in air and sea freight forwarding, customs clearance, warehousing, and last-mile delivery services throughout East Africa. We aim to enhance the movement of goods with speed, transparency, and dependability by addressing common operational challenges in freight and logistics within the region.

Role Overview

We are seeking a technical co-founder to spearhead the development of our technology infrastructure that will support innovations such as real-time shipment tracking, automated customs processing, enhanced warehousing management, and seamless end-to-end customer experience. This founding team role offers equity partnership rather than a traditional employee position, providing a strategic influence on our company's trajectory.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead the technology vision and strategic roadmap encompassing customer-facing applications for booking and tracking, alongside backend operations like warehousing and customs systems.
• Establish and grow the product and engineering teams, initially contributing hands-on and evolving into a leadership role.
• Design and deliver core technology including shipment visibility tools, customs workflow automation, warehouse management systems, and last-mile delivery solutions.
• Ensure system reliability and scalability considering the 24/7 nature of logistics operations where downtime disrupts cargo movement.
• Collaborate closely with operational and commercial divisions to identify and convert logistical bottlenecks into effective technological solutions.
• Evaluate build-versus-buy options integrating with external systems such as shipping lines, customs authorities (KRA/Simba), payment gateways, and routing services, prioritizing proprietary tools that offer competitive advantages.
• Act as a technology representative in interactions with investors, partners, and customers as a core founding team member.

Candidate Profile

• Demonstrable success delivering software products, ideally in roles such as founding engineer, technical co-founder, or senior engineering leader.
• Strong full-stack software engineering expertise covering web, mobile, backend, and infrastructure.
• Experience or interest in logistics, supply chain management, fintech, or related sectors where software interfaces with physical operations.
• Adaptability and a proactive approach suited to startup environments characterized by uncertainty and rapid iteration.
• Excellent product sense capable of simplifying complex operational challenges into user-friendly tools.
• Familiarity with distributed teams and remote operations regarded as advantageous.
• Previous startup or founder involvement is a significant plus.
• Must be located in or willing to relocate to Nairobi, Kenya.
