Role overview
Article is looking for a Category Manager to own the Decor assortment and help shape the brand through a product mix that resonates with customers. The company has been rethinking furniture since 2013, and this role sits in the Category Management function, contributing directly to revenue and profitability.
This position is suited to someone who has previously worked as a Product Line Manager, Buyer, Merchant, or Merchandiser, ideally in a retail-oriented setting. The Decor category is still being built out, so the right person should be comfortable working through ambiguity, creating structure where processes are still evolving, and using data to guide decisions.
What the role is responsible for
The Category Manager will help define and execute strategy for the Decor category, own performance accountability for the category P&L, and partner across product, sourcing, and other internal teams to deliver growth. Strong Excel and analytical skills are important, as the role requires turning raw data into insights and actions.
Team and work setup
The Category Management group is a 16-person team that includes Specialists, Junior/Category Managers, and Directors, reporting into the VP of Category Management, Rebecca Andrews. The team works in a hybrid model, with three in-office days per week, typically Tuesday through Thursday.
Key responsibilities
- Own the revenue and profitability results for the assigned product category, specifically Decor.
- Use customer, market, competitor, and trend research to build and execute product strategy.
- Spot, document, and rank investment ideas that can expand category share and support growth.
- Work closely with product and sourcing partners to bring the category strategy into execution.
- Help drive the team toward category and department goals by ensuring direct reports meet KPIs, timelines, and quality standards.
- Represent the customer internally and negotiate performance commitments with stakeholders across the business.
- Set and manage pricing and promotional pricing to support revenue and margin targets.
- Review category performance in depth, extract insights, and convert findings into practical next steps.
- Use G Suite tools and Slack for day-to-day collaboration and communication, with either a Mac or PC device.
Candidate profile
Article is seeking someone with at least 7 years of experience in merchandising, product line management, merchant, or category management roles. The ideal candidate has a proven record of growing revenue through assortment or product-line decisions, is highly analytical, and can clearly communicate across functions. Success in this role also depends on consistent follow-through with both internal and external partners.
Eligibility and hiring checks
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada. A criminal background check is required, and it is completed only after a conditional offer is accepted and with the applicant’s consent. Having a criminal record does not automatically prevent employment; decisions are made individually based on whether a past conviction is directly relevant to the role’s duties.
Compensation and benefits
The posted salary range is CAD $115,000 to $140,000 per year. Starting pay depends on transferable skills, experience, knowledge, hiring budget, market data, and internal equity. Eligible employees may also receive an annual cash bonus when Article meets its financial goals.
